Can Children Learn Life saving skills?
It’s been a busy July.
I had the pleasure of attending Stanton Primary School Fete again with my CPR and First Aid Stand.
Children’s ability to learn, understand and do CPR in particular, never ceases to amaze me.
Lessons we can ALL learn from these young life savers:
It doesn’t need to be perfect: belly flops, bottoms and feet can be used to do chest compressions (and VERY effectively it turns out)
Abdominal thrusts in choking are no problem. I might have to sit across you and push from the front, but I can remove that piece of food from your windpipe!
I know numbers - I can call 999
I know people who help us - I can say I need an ambulance or a doctor or a nurse
If I cant wake mummy or daddy up with my normal tactics (tickling, poking and kisses), they are poorly and I need to get help
Some injuries or wounds are “gross”. However, I need to stop it bleeding and can find something to tie around it.
I know what an Epipen is, because someone in my class has one, and I know how and when to use it.
Maybe as adults we need to worry less about what our skills look like, let our fears of first aid, and our inhibitions go…
Anglia CPR provides First Aid and CPR Training for people of any age. Sessions can be adapted to all levels and are always informative and fun.
